Excellence & Professionalism

Matthew Pomfret has over 25 years' experience in woodwork, both in the creation of bespoke furniture and antique restoration. He prides himself on providing a personalised and trustworthy service to his customers.

All bespoke furniture is designed to meet the requirements of his clients. Matthew will visit or get images of the space in which the furniture will be placed or fitted. This allows him to remain sensitive to the period and context of the space, whether that’s Edwardian, Victorian or contemporary.

Our History

Matthew’s career started in woodwork at a young age and has been continuously developing his talent for furniture design gaining his City and Guilds in Carpentry and Joinery at Pontypool college.

After receiving distinctions on a 3 year course in Cabinet Making at Brunel College in Bristol, he won one of only 12 places at the prestigious West Dean College for Antique Restoration. In 1996 he won the 1st Prize for the BAFRA (British Antique Furniture Restoration Association) student conservation award for an outstanding example of furniture restoration and conservation sponsored by Stanley Tools, Sheffield. He graduated with a Diploma in Antique Restoration from the University of Sussex.

Following his education he spent 12 years working in the Cotswolds. He worked for Hunt & Lomas which provided him with opportunities to work for members of the British nobility, well known aristocrats, as well as notable Sirs and Dames. Building an outstanding reputation he set up on his own before moving back to Wales to restore a Welsh longhouse. He now bases himself out of South Wales with clients ranging from London to Cotswolds, and as far north as Edinburgh.
